I've just installed v2.9. The install went without problem and received okay on all field. Setup a test.php file in root folder and received the message "Can't find settings.php!" Move the test file to the folder with the protection.php and it did not ask for a password but no error messages. The <?php include("/homeXX/XXXX8/public_html/cpp_29/protection.php"); ?> I am using firefox browser to test the script.

Is protection.php and the file you're protecting in the same folder? Otherwise move them all to the same folder.
