"Here are my directions: pray much for others; plead for God's mercy upon them; give thanks for all he is going to do for them.
Pray in this way for kings and all others who are an authority over us, or in places of high responsibility, so that we can live in peace and quietness, spending our time in godly living and thinking much about the Lord. This is good and pleases God our Saviour, for he longs for all of us to be saved and to understand this truth: that God is on one side and all the people on the other side and Christ Jesus, himself man, is between them to bring them together by giving his life for all mankind." Timothy 2:1-6
What to you choose to be involved in, and the things you do have a big impact on what you think. That is why the Bible tells us that we need to focus on "whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honorable, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are OF GOOD REPORT; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." - Philippians 4:8
The same goes for prayer; we should remember to constantly be talking with God. Have you ever been around someone who spends a lot of time reading the word and praying? They always seem to be happy and peaceful and all they seem to care about are the things of the Lord. The old saying is true " garbage in, garbage out" when we spend their time watching the matrix instead of prying we aren't helping our walk with the Lord any.
This verse tells us that we should pray for others, especially those in command. And the reward is a life of peace and quietness (not boredom). We'll also end spending more of our time for the Lord's work and thinking about him often.
The verse goes on to say that God wants all of us understand the fact that God is on one side and people are on the other. And it's an absolute blessing the Jesus died for our sins. Because now we can go before the creator of the universe and talk with him anytime we want.
Too often we forget that we have an open line to God Almighty, we need to remember to use it.
