Quote:
They did not even demand that my companion Titus be circumcised, though he was a Gentile. Even that question wouldn't have come up except for some so-called Christians there - false ones, really - who came to spy on us and see our freedom in Christ Jesus. They wanted to force us, like slaves, to follow their Jewish regulations. But we refused to listen to them for a single moment. We wanted to preserve the truth of the good news for you.
Galatians 2:3-5
I've seen people like this in the church, and I'm sure you have too. I've probably even acted like this before; It's a real easy for Satan to trick us into doing things legalistically. It's good to want people to follow the rules and be the best they can, but sometimes it's taken too far. Remember the first two commandments; "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, sole, mind, and strength", and "love your neighbor as yourself"?
Is it just me, or do these commandments seemed to be missing from the hearts of those people?
Our number one priority is to show love to God and other people. (Read 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 real quick.) In everything we do we should try to think of the other person as more important than us, and lovingly tell them about anything that we think they're doing wrong. In this verse, Paul tells about a group of people who were spying on him and his companions to try to tear them down. They weren't doing it in love to help Paul and his friends become better Christians. They were just trying to cause problems.
Just like anything Satan convinces you to do - there's always a little truth in it. I think that it's good to tell other Christians about things they're doing wrong. However, you should go up to them privately and humbly talk to them about it. Not with the intent of tearing them down like these "False Christians".
