 Post subject: New Site Update

Well, production on the new site is moving along. This new site will feature a new name, style, and will be run by a CMS rather than a Forum (though there will be one). I have like 90% of the site designed for cross-browser compatibility (Curse you IE!! :P). I also, ported all of the PHP lessons over to the new site. I am working on making Video Versions of all of the PHP lessons and re-writing some of the earlier lessons to be easier to understand. So far I only have the first four lessons videos.

LearnPHPFree is a great site, and I don?t know if I am going to take it down after the new site is launched ???, but I want to expand the range of lessons to other things besides PHP.

Ultimately, I want to use the new site to help Christian web masters (or anyone) get out of the trend of bad/non-standards/bulky sites that the world has come to expect from Christian Sites, and into cleaner, standards compliant, likable, and usable web designs. I also want to take anyone willing to learn, from no web-experience to a good working understanding of web design and coding over the span of the site. This is how I think that I can use the gifts God has given me for his Kingdom.

The new site will hopefully cover what I consider to be the Key elements of the web:
PHP, MySQL, JavaScript, Flash, CSS, X/D/HT-ML, Design, Color, and PhotoShop/GIMP

Later! :D

Well, production on the new site has been delayed. The things I was trying to achieve couldn't be done the way I coded the old layout. (I hate making something work in anything but FireFox :P ) So, now I have a better CSS layout that ends up looking the same, but will work in hopefully anything (even without the style sheet!) :D

So stay tuned!

Ok, I STILL wasn?t satisfied with the layout! (this is version 4 now) I had a problem with it when the side bars were longer than the content and I also had a problem on browsers less than 700px wide. (Yes this is going to be the most cross-browser compatible site I have EVER made.) So I not only changed the format of the three column layout, but I also added more color and contrast to the site! I am also working on a ?style chooser? so that you can change the text size/layout/colors.

So far it works perfectly in Opera 9, FF 1&2, and Internet Explorer 6&7. I?ll let you know more as it happens.

I also, have the first 5 HTML lessons done along with the four PHP lessons.

Haha

Great! I would love to have anyone who wants to help!

As you can see from my sites, I am not about making money. Look at other tutorial/lesson sites; they all have a bunch of ads on them... :P

But these sites aren?t about me, and they sure aren?t about making a profit. They?re about ?us? - anyone and everyone that wants to learn or teach. People that want to help others.

The only reason I am in web design is because someone took the time to explain it to me. (I was, and still am, a PC tech guy) Someone told me what Photoshop was and that you can do all kinds of things with PHP. :D

Now its my turn, I want to help others - just like I was helped.
So I have a lot planed for the new site.

Here is a picture of the places our members and visitors come from:

Now not everywhere is covered, but I think each mark stands for several hundred people.
