or http://categ.domain.com/date/....... (just an example)

Yes it does give more points on sub domains. But it is not advisable if your having more than 50 pages.

Is this really true all the time.I saw in other threads theyre talking about the PR of a linkexchange will make better your PR in a search engine.Now theyre talking about sub-domains is much better.

I use a simple rule (and unfortunately it's not that much about SEO).

THe rule is:
if the page contain similar content and will have similar design as your main page, then you shouldn't use a sub-domain. But if the page have diffrent design or diffrent content than your main page, then use a sub-domain.

PR is a different thing. It is true that when you do link exchange with site that has good PR it can also be pass on you. Sub domains are for the structure of your site that can help you to rank good in SE.
