 Post subject: Be in the World, but not of the World...

Points:
Please read 2 Corinthians 6 before you read this.

While I was reading this chapter it donned on me that we do a lot of things just like the world. I meet new people all the time that I would never know were Christians; except that they tell me they are. I do the same thing! After talking with someone for a while I finally tell them I'm a Christian - only to hear, "Your a Christian?" In reply. :? I feel bad when it happens because I know that if they couldn't tell, then I'm not being a very good light in the world.

"In everything we do we tried to show that we are true ministers of God" 2 Corinthians 6:4

I find that I fall short of this very often; do you? Satan's always there trying to convince us to get in line with everyone else and try the "latest greatest" thing he has to offer. He says "if I can't stop you from being Christian that's ok... just don't be a real Christian; don't let anyone know your Christian. Just keep following the rest of the world."

Are we showing the world what it means to be Christians - or showing Christians what it means to be the world?

In this chapter Paul goes on to talk about the things that they endured in their work for Christ. Here in America we don't have to "endure" anything! Yet we can't even come close to what Paul was able to do. He suffered for being a Christian yet he still did God's work. In America we don't suffer anything, yet we have a hard time just "remembering" to do God's work. :wink:

"Don't team up with those who are unbelievers. How can goodness be a partner with weakness? How can light live with darkness?" 2 Corinthians 6:14
You should be living a life that is not aligned with the world. You are either Christ's or you're not. How are people going to see the difference in Christians if they all look like the world? One of my favorite bands (DC Talk) started one of their songs saying this;

The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today is Christians
who acknowledge Jesus with their lips
and then walk out the door and get on with their lifestyle-
that is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable...

Read 2 Corinthians 6:16-18 again.
